The West Maui Volcano stands more than 25,000 feet if measured from the ocean floor. The highest point, called Puu Kukui meaning Candlenut Hill, is one of the wettest spots in the world, averaging 400 inches of rain a year. Yet just a few miles away, along the leeward shore, are some of the driest parts of Maui, offering beautiful beaches and great snorkeling and diving; truly a place kissed by the sun.
