The West Maui Volcano stands more than 25,000 feet if measured from the ocean floor. From sea level, the West Maui Mountains stand 5,788 feet tall and stretche18 miles from Papawai Point to Kahului Bay. The highest point, called Puu Kukui meaning Candlenut Hill, is one of the wettest spots in the world, averaging 400 inches of rain a year. Yet just a few miles away, along the leeward shore, are some of the driest parts of Maui, offering beautiful beaches and great snorkeling and diving; truly a place kissed by the sun.
And if it's sun you're looking for, then Lahaina is the place to be. Lahaina, meaning "merciless sun," offers beach front vacation home rentals, and hotels and resorts offer beach front accommodations as well. Whether you are looking for a getaway for two, or full family travel accommodations, you can find it in Lahaina. And, You will only be steps away from fine art galleries, world-class restaurants, specialty shops, and all sorts of ocean activities. Lahaina Harbor offers a long list of recreational activities, including snorkeling, fishing, and in season whale watching or parasailing. And when you're done for the day, there is the night. Lahaina nightlife includes state-of-the-art theatrical productions, a magic club, and great dining and dancing. And we haven't even mentioned Kaanapali yet, but that can wait till next week... |
