Hana - part of a great Maui vacation
There is more to see along the Hana Highway than anyone can possibly fit into a single day. You do have to make some choices. Stopping everyplace you see others pulled over will leave you little time for the great spots farther along. A few of our recommendations...
Kaumahina State Wayside Park
Just less than half way along you'll come to this state park. There is parking and restrooms, and a great view looking out over the coast with Keanae peninsula in the distance.
Keanae peninsula
About half way you'll see a sign leading down to the peninsula. (Just past the YMCA, really...). Drive out to the end for some great pictures. But if the waves are big, do not get too close to the lava rock shore.
Don't miss the banana bread
It seems there are many places to get banana bread anymore. But the original is the one on the upper road - "Half Way to Hana." Get one for now, and one for later...
Wailua Overlook
Just past Keanae is Wailua valley. There's a small little spot to pull out on the right, so keep your eyes open. From here you can walk up some steps to a view of both the upper valley, and below to the village of Wailua.
