Hana Maui - Part 3 Waianapanapa and Hana Town
August 23, 2008
Hana day trip: Part of an Affordable Maui Vacation
Just before you get to Hana town, you will pass the entrance to Wai'anapanapa State Park. Wai'anapanapa has something for everyone. You can park and walk only a few yards to a beautiful view of one of Hawaii's black sand beaches, or you can hike, camp, and even find cabins to stay in. (Download Camping Permit)
Hana Town
While it's true a trip to Hana is as much about the journey as it is about the destination, there are still a number of things to see in Hana town. As you drive in, if you look up to the right, you'll see Fagan's cross, a memorial to Paul Fagan who originally owned the Hana Ranch and Hana Hotel. And a great place for a picnic is Hana bay. There is even a sandwich shop there to provide your picnic food.
If you don't have much time left, you can call it day after this and head back to your Kaanapali vacation condo or Lahaina home rental. But, if you have more time and energy, you can continue on past Hana to the Kipahulu district of Haleakala National Park. More about this next week...
