The Maui Parade of Whales

We love our whales. The annual winter migration of these awe inspiring creatures is so widely enjoyed and celebrated by locals and visitors, we even have a Whale Day. If you happen to visit South Kihei Road on February 21st between 9 and 10a.m. you'll get a taste of the festivities.
Maui's Whale Day community parade attracts visitors and locals by the thousands every year to honor Maui's biggest part-time residents. There will be floats, music, marching bands, gymnasts, costumed characters, and even a life-sized humpback balloon. The parade will range from the big whale statue to the fire station on South Kihei Road.
The parade kicks off Whale Day, which is an all-day, free festival in Kalama Park. This year's will be the 29th annual Whale Day. Over 100 local artists will comprise the craft fair portion of the celebration this year. Local live bands will include The Willie K Band, John Cruz, George Kahumoku, Jr., Marty Dread, Gomega, and Off Tomorrow. There will, of course, be excellent food from some popular Maui restaurants.
To add an educational element to all the fun, there will be environmental displays and activities for children and volumes of great information on the whales. The celebration will take place between 9a.m. and 6p.m. For more information about this event, check out the website.
