July Increase in Hawaii Vacationers

The increase was not a landslide, but a modest 1.3 percent increase in visitors to Hawaii in the month of July. Even a small step in the right direction makes a big difference, considering that the last increase in visitors was in February of 2008.
The tally came up to 621,590 visitors, but even among those who did arrive at our little paradise, budgets are still a bit tight. For this reason, visitor spending did not increase with the number of visitors, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority. This may also be due to the reduction in prices that you can find in plane tickets, Maui activities or Maui vacation rental deals like those we offer.
Daily spending was about $150/person this past July, but $176 in July 2008. Recovery is going to take some time. Where air travel is concerned, there was a 7.7 percent increase in visitors from the Western U.S. and a 0.3 percent decrease in visitors from the Eastern U.S.
Fortunately for the Big Island and our island of Maui, air arrivals actually increased in July. Air travel fell for Oahu and Kauai. Hopefully, visitors will continue to take advantage of some of the most competitive vacation prices in decades while they last.
