See the Hula O Na Keiki on Your Maui Vacation

The Hula O Na Keiki is a children's solo hula competition which is held at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. The event has grown from just one day of fun to a full weekend of cultural immersion.
The competition will include children between ages 5 to 17 years old, demonstrating the fruits of a strong effort to sustain the richness of Hawaiian culture in the children of Hawaii. Participation on the part of these children will help to ensure that the ways of their Hawaiian ancestors not be forgotten.
The contestants will be interviewed before a panel of judges first and they are required to have memorized a chant in the native Hawaiian language. Later in the evening they will perform both traditional (kahiko) or modern (auana) style hula. The next night they will have another opportunity to prove their dancing skill, which will be their final performance unless they are entered into the Couple (Palau) Division where they will dance in tandem.
You can anticipate great things from these young performers. If you go in expecting to see kids fumbling around onstage, prepare to be surprised. Instead, you will see grace, beauty, elegance and a great deal of skill and discipline.
