Samoan and Maori Dance Performance on Maui

It's true that times are changing quickly with the ever increasing rate of technological development, even on our little island of Maui. This makes stewardship of Hawaiian culture especially important for Maui residents. Plenty of faithful organizations and individuals work consistently to keep the culture alive and well. But Maui culture has been developed by many travelers that have arrived on its shores, including a wide array of ethnic groups which we also like to experience.
On your Maui vacation, you may want to see the upcoming dance show with Samoan and Maori influences called Black Grace. Its roots lie in the communities of Aotearoa in New Zealand. You might think that such culture is very distant from Hawaiian culture but in fact, Maoris and Samoans are quite closely related to Hawaiians thanks to their similar geographic origins.
This is a show that has received excellent reviews from very credible sources in the past. It has been described as lively, dynamic, innovative and artistic. Fusing Pacific and contemporary dance is not unusual here in Hawaii, so it should be interesting to see a similar combination from these divergent cultures.
You can see Black Grace at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center's Castle Theater in Kahului. The show is on February 11th at 7:30p.m. and tickets range from $12-35.
