Visit the Seven Sacred Pools on Your Maui Vacation

The Seven Sacred Pools are pretty well-known, it's true, so if you do happen to visit, don't expect to be the only one there. That being said, seeing this beautiful Maui wonder is well worth the trip.
"Seven Sacred" (as many locals call it for short) is a series of gorgeous waterfalls feeding into pools set like stepping stones. Each one spills its water right into the next as though it were a professionally crafted, multi-tiered fountain. The pools themselves are not the only thing that make the place special. The majestic waters of the Pacific are nearby and the lush tropical jungle swaths the area like a soft, green blanket. It's one of those places that doesn't look like a real place, rather something from the imagination of an artist.
The water trails through the O'heo Gulch and into the nearby ocean. The pools lie along a two mile stretch from the ocean inland and are fed by the Pipiwai Streams. The nicest and most closely linked pools are located near the shoreline.
Also, as it was a donation to the Haleakala National Park, the land is publicly owned and free for visitors to come and go as they please without any fees. The pools themselves are great for swimming, cliff jumping or diving and there are some nice areas for hiking around them. In fact, the Pipiwai Trail is touted as one of the very best hikes on Maui. It is 4 miles round trip including a 650-foot climb in elevation and takes about 2.5-5 hours to hike. It ends at Waimoku Falls, which boasts a waterfall cascading down 400 feet of sheer lava rock wall. The entire area is great for photographers with an eye for natural beauty.
Seven Sacred is a favorite place for both residents and visitors, so although a large parking lot is located near the pools, we recommend going on a week day if you prefer fewer people. Oh, and another tip which is possibly the most valuable. There are mosquitoes so bring bug spray or whatever works to keep them away.
