Souvenir Bargain Hunting at Maui Swap Meet

Do you enjoy hunting for that rare item of quality, that treasure that the other shoppers overlooked? Imagine over 200 vendors selling works of art, musical instruments, jewelry, handmade crafts, fresh produce, antiques, clothes, and tasty treats to sustain your exploration. You'll find all this and much more at the Maui Swap Meet, a bargain-hunter's paradise. In fact, it's even loved by those who don't normally enjoy shopping.

Whether you just enjoy browsing for surprising items or putting your discerning eye to the test to find something worth more to you than its price tag, you might want to reserve your souvenir and gift shopping for the Swap Meet before you bother looking anywhere else. As you'll read in the rave reviews, many vacationers regret not going there first. That's because you won't find so much variety at such terrific prices at any other location on the island. There's something for everyone, whether your budget is big or small.

If you'd like to check it out, you can swing by the University of Hawaii Maui College off Ka'ahumanu Ave. in Kahului on any Saturday of the year. The gates open at 7am and close at 1pm. Give yourself about an hour to get there if you're staying at one of our West Maui vacation rentals. Admission is fifty cents, while children ages 12 and under get in free. There's plenty of parking, but since the Swap Meet is popular among residents and visitors alike, you'll want to arrive early if you're angling for a good spot.

If you find yourself tempted by items in boutiques and craft stores around the island, keep in mind that you'll find many of those same items at the Swap Meet for much better prices. That's because they're not paying inflated rent prices. Just wait until you experience vendors that are happy and having fun selling goods they're proud of, at prices they're proud of. You'll find artists selling their own works of art, crafters selling their own creations, and farmers selling their own home-grown produce. There's a laid-back, warm community feel to the whole experience.

Don't be surprised to find that you've spent half your day having fun exploring, shopping and sampling tasty treats. If you need something to cool down, try a shave ice. For a truly tropical experience, you can buy fresh coconuts and drink the milk from them with a straw. When you're done, return to the vendor who will cut them open so you can enjoy the meat inside, too. You might be surprised to find that there are some very talented bakers on the island, some of whom will be selling amazing homemade baked goods. If you can get some banana bread, do. It will likely be the best you've ever had, or will ever have anywhere else!

You can find more details at the Maui Swap Meet website. If you're interested in a second opinion, or many more, check out the TripAdvisor reviews. If you need our assistance with your Maui vacation accommodations, feel free to contact us! Mahalo!
