Chris' Recommendations on What to PackLahaina is usually hot and sunny so bring mostly short pants and short sleeved shirts and blouses. However, depending on where you are on the island, the weather can also be cool, windy, or raining (Upcountry.) Evenings will often be fairly cool; although you wouldn't need anything more than a light sweater in Lahaina. Most restaurants are located outdoors, offering open air seating and a casual dining atmosphere. This is the best way to pack: Wear your long pants, lightweight waterproof jacket, and tennis shoes on the plane. This is the outfit you'll need if you decide to go hiking or horse back riding in some of the cooler areas. You'll also want to be prepared by having these items in the car when you go upcountry. You won't need anything warmer than this one set of warm clothes. For Lahaina you'll need shorts and sleeveless or short sleeve lightweight clothes during the day. For most dinners out, I wear a long or short summer weight sleeveless dress, flat sandals, and take a light sweater or wrap in case it's cool. There is nowhere that is dressier than this; in fact, most tourists don't even get this dressed up. On rare occasions Tom wears long pants, but usually nice shorts and an aloha shirt: never a sports coat. Bring a couple of swimsuits and cover-ups, Teva type sandals or reef shoes, a good hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Don't forget your camera! The Biggest thing to remember is PACK LIGHT. You'll be surprised at how little you'll need and you'll probably want to buy some things while you're here. And, of course, you can use the washer/dryer in the unit. - Chris |
