Whether you’ve been to Maui every year or are looking into visiting the island for your very first time, there’s an exciting event that happens on the Valley Isle each year that you won’t want to miss. One of the many things that makes Maui so unique, aside from its awesome outdoor adventures and scenic views, of course, is the community and the events that bring together locals and visitors alike.

One such event just so happens to be the annual Maui Film Festival. Every year the film festival celebrates the cinema and causes a frenzy here on the island for those of us who love the movies and captivating storytelling. This individual event started in 2000 by Barry Rivers and has since made a name for itself. Over the years, the festival has displayed more than 750 narrative and documentary-like feature films to the Maui community and has shed light on both major box-office hits and compelling documentaries.

Along with showcasing some incredible work, there’s another plus to this happening event. While there’s plenty of movies to enjoy that week, the best part is getting to mix and mingle with some of Hollywood's hottest actors and actresses. Every year the festival honors some of the best of the best in the movie industry as honorees. In the past, there have been celebrities such as Willie Nelson attending, along with well-known and respected directors like Tim Burton, Rob Reiner, Clint Eastwood, Catherine Hardwicke, Louis Psihoyos and even His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama.

Along with the chance to rub elbows with some pretty famous people, you get to enjoy the culture of aloha, plenty of good food, the beauty of Maui and so much more during this multi-day event. All weekend long there will be unique VIP options and various movies to see at the festival’s two main venues. These venues are the Celestial Cinema on the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Courses and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului.

We hope you’re now curious about the upcoming Maui Film Festival slated for June 12th through the 16th.
