Eat Like a Maui Local on Your Next Hawaii Vacation

Are you someone who considers eating out an adventure? Well, if so then read on because we are focusing on some of the best local spots to dine for your Maui holiday getaway. Eating like a local means enjoying some of the tasty grinds that are infused with flavor, culture, and aloha. Here are our best three places to eat like a local in Maui.

  1. Da Kitchen: With locations in both Rainbow Mall in Kihei and near the airport in Kahului, this spot is well-known for its local dishes that come in generous sizes. Enjoy a loco moco, some poi, and a healthy portion of rice on the side with each meal. What are these recipes you ask? Well, just some of our favorite foods!

Loco mocos takes home cooking to the next level and comes with a hamburger patty on a bed of rice topped off with gravy and a fried egg! Yum! Poi, of course, is a local Hawaiian side dish that comes from the fermented root of the taro which has been baked and pounded into a paste. It’s incredible! And, of course, every dish comes with rice here so don’t embarrass yourself by skipping the rice or your server will certainly call you out!

  2. Tin Roof: Now here is a must for your next Maui vacation. The Tin Roof is a casual lunch joint that was opened by Chef Sheldon Simeon. Chef Sheldon was on the acclaimed television show “Top Chef,” and he’s returned to Maui to make a statement about local food. Enjoy his twists on local favorites such as a poke bowl, pork belly or the mochiko chicken.

  3. Poi By The Pound: Poi By The Pound is a great place to try poke for the first time. Poke is a local dish that includes raw, fresh ahi or mahi fish mixed with some tasty seasonings, spices, and sauces. The restaurant also offers a deep-fried lau lau that will blow your mind!
